In 2026, Haramaya University leaders, faculty, clinicians, researchers, and staff came together with visiting collaborators whose experience spanned academic medicine, public health, epidemiology, implementation science, data science, One Health, research administration, and nonprofit partnership development.
Through presentations, working sessions, site-based learning, and leadership reflection, the summit produced something more useful than a long list of ideas: a clearer understanding of HU’s strengths, areas of genuine alignment, and the conditions required for collaboration to move forward responsibly.
The outcome was not a finished portfolio. It was a disciplined way forward.
What the summit clarified
A strong foundation
Haramaya University already brings respected leadership, institutional depth, clinical reach, research capability, and deep knowledge of the communities it serves.
Focus before expansion
The strongest opportunities are those aligned with HU priorities, supported by the right expertise, and designed around clear institutional value.
Authority and accountability
HU leadership and formal university processes—not individual enthusiasm alone—must guide which collaborations advance, how they are approved, and how they are sustained.
Leadership and stewardship
HUGHA’s Board of Directors provides fiduciary oversight, strategic guidance, and continuity for the Alliance. Board members help ensure that partnerships remain aligned with Haramaya University priorities, nonprofit responsibilities, and long-term institutional value.
