Leadership behind the vision HUGHA Board of Directors
None of this would have happened without the leaders who first recognized what this relationship could become. They opened the early conversations, brought people together across institutions and disciplines, and created the space for a more enduring partnership to take shape. As the vision grew into a framework for action, that group became HUGHA’s Board of Directors—entrusted with carrying the original idea forward and helping it develop with purpose.

The vision taking shape
In 2026, Haramaya University hosted the first ever HUGHA Summit. The summit brought together leaders from Haramaya University with physicians, researchers, educators, public health experts, and nonprofit leaders who have devoted their careers to solving difficult problems and improving lives. They came from different disciplines and institutions, but shared the same essential values: curiosity, humility, scientific rigor, mutual respect, and a determination to turn knowledge into practical action. What formed around the table was more than a collection of expertise—it was a community of people willing to listen, learn from one another, and stay engaged long enough to build something meaningful together.
